Hello !
I have a lot of 12% silicon aluminium parts (casted) which I need to mill (flange and couple holes).
First try with TiAlN coated mill was not very couraging - although I removed only 1mm radial / 10 mm axial with d=12mm, there was no vibration or anything unusual - I got chipped edge on the endmill. I've heard this kind of aluminium is very abrasive.
Please share - what tooling would you use ? I want to have as much information as possible, before going to buy CBN or diamond endmills.
Batch size is 100 to 1000 items, I have to mill about 1mm off of 100mm diameter face and also some edge and pockets.
Also, the parts are sand blasted. Could it be that the problem is not casted aluminium but trapped particles of sand ? How should I treat the parts ?
Thanks !
