Programming Y-axis turning center question

Ok, I've expanded my search for a small 2-axis turning center to potentially getting a y-axis version. This may be a stupid question, but could I program the y-axis milling functions with my mill 4th axis CAM? Would there be too many code changes to make this viable? Anyone try this? I know a dedicated mill-turn package would work better but I'm really stretching to get this lathe and won't have a new CAM system in the budget.
