NPT Thread Mill

Question on thread mills. It is looking like about 1-2 times a year I will have to do some 1-11.5 female pipe threads in aluminum. A normal thread mill for that is going to run about $160.

Can I get a single point thread mill to work for this? I could get a size that would work for roughly $60 and also be able to use it for a bunch of other stuff.

I am guessing that I might have to mill a tapered hole to make this work? With a straight hole the crest of the threads will be sharp at the top of the hole. I am guessing that will not work.

Maybe just bite the bullet for the normal thread mill?

What do you think?

Thanks,
