What is everyone using to hold onto the tools for HSM tool paths? I have been having problems lately with the end mills pulling out of the holders, specifically 5/8 end mills using an ER 32 collet holder, I use an ER 32 for 1/2'' tools with out a problem, but the larger tools are pulling out, no matter how tight you get them. I set up a job yesterday and had ran about 6 parts out, let night shift take over and... came in this morning with two end mills laying on my desk with the corners brunt off from milling into the vise jaws. The machine has a spindle cooler and my night guys theory is that the tool is getting hot and the tapper of the tool is being cooled and this hot and cold effect is causing the collet nut to loosen during machining. I think this could be possible too, but whatever is causing it, it's not working. I would use an end mill holder but the tools I'm using are not supplied with a Weldon, I suppose I could have this added to the tool at an extra cost, but end mill holders generally have more run out then collet holders and I hate run out. My other thought was using a milling chuck with a reduction sleeve this I have not tried yet as I do not have a 5/8 sleeve. So what are you guys using to hold your tools?
