I am buying a new router and plan to do some light aluminum work I have a part that need a .201" hole drilled 1" deep in 6061 T-6 extrusion. The hole is then drilled .500” deep with a .257” and tapped 1/4-20. The tapping will be done off the machine as a secondary operation. I have been doing these parts on my bed mill with a 4200 RPM spindle at around 2800 RPM.
The new router has an HSD spindle with an RPM range of 6000 to 24000 RPM and not recommended to run under 6000 RPM. The sales guy says they recommend drilling aluminum @ 10000 RPM. I need to ask some more questions but I just thought I would ask here if this sounds doable.
Thanks Mike
