HSM Video - First Attempt

So I have to make some brackets in 1018 plate, that requires a 5.12" hole thru... I only need to make 2 brackets, so no fancy CAM needed. I programmed the first parts to just ramp-down on a circle, dropping a slug out where the hole would be. On part number 2, the slug that was supposed to drop out, got caught in the endmill, and broke the endmill and scrapped the part... The heck with this.

So on the next part, rather than drop a slug out, I figured I'd try to write a Macro to just cut the entire hole. This would be a good time for some HSM. So I finally got a working macro, and whipped out my phone.

Pardon the funky setup - sometime you gotta' do what you gotta' do... The sound you hear when the cutter is near the bottom of the part is the cutter cutting into the soft parallel, and later, the collet nut rubbing into my Kant-twist clamp. :(

Machine: Samsung MCV-50 with Fanuc 0i-MD control. 20hp CAT-40 spindle and linear rails.

Cutter: Some well-worn, re ground Frasia/Scorpion endmill. 4-flute carbide endmill with some black coating... Held in an ER32 collet.

Material: 1018 CRS, .75" thick

Cutting parameters: 6100 rpm (800 sfm), .05" radial width of cut, feed rate slowly increased to 250"/min.

I hope you all like it! (edit: HSM starts near 1:50...)
