I have engraved a bunch, but now have the need to replicate a metal stamp, as the zinc die cast part I am working on is too uneven to engrave in this application.
I have had some custom number stamps made in the past, but was hoping to make my own now with the VMC. The use for this stamp will be very low, under a dozen a year. The stamp is a sequence of 5 numbers, and they are quite small. I am thinking that I would need a .015 end mill to get the details inside some of the numbers.
I guess I am asking for any tips about making a number stamp, what material, etc..... AND also I'd like to know how these are normally made, maybe a video link? because the ones I have bought do not have any machining marks, so I would guess it is some sort of EDM process?
thanks!
