Debate in the shop over what gains more productivity. Currently, we have a twin spindle, y axis turn-mill, and we need to step up production of certain parts.
I say: Bring in a new twin turret variant of the same machine, then get rid of the current machine when everything is smoothed out. (or keep it if we need it)
pros: one machine to maintain, less [turret] setup time, one machine to setup,
Others say: Bring in a [new] duplicate machine of what we already have. Keep the other machine in place and running.
pros: can run different jobs simultaneously, programs and CAM post are already solid [no learning curve]
What say those experienced with twin turret machines?
