Need help wiring a DB9 connector for RS232

I am trying to set up communications on a new to me Kitamura with a Yasnac i80 control. The db25 port on the panel doesn't seem to work, I don't have a db15 connector for the port on the cabinet door, so I am left with the db9 port that the previous shop wired directly into the communications module. I have been communicating with usb converters but after the first program loads all of the usb ports on my computer lock up and I have to reboot. Yesterday it quite communicating altogether. I have since checked how the db9 cable is wired and think I have found the problem. It looks like the pin out is a little off for this control.

Pin 3 is wired for RD, pin 4 is SD, and pin 1 is signal ground.

It should be pin 2 RD, pin 3 SD, and pin 5 signal ground.

I also need to add a jumper on the computer side connector between Data Set Ready and Data End Ready. DSR is pin 6 on the computer, what pin is DER? Is it pin 4 Data Terminal Ready?

What happens if I get the wiring wrong?

Is the shielding on the cable supposed to be grounded to the connectors on both ends?

Two photos of where the cable terminates at the machine.

Thank you for any help.
