Just hoping that someone has run into this quirk and has some idea as to why it happens.
Happened first to a bridgeport Torq-Cut 22, breaking carousel holders, and putting that machine out of commission for the time being. That one was the encoder on the spindle. Fixed that, drops off and grabs tools fine. But it's taking a break for the broken parts.
I don't think these are related but just in case. The new (to us) mill ran fine for a couple weeks, then while changing to the z touch off tool, it dropped it. Happened too fast to tell why. It pushed it out of the plastic carousel hard. As if the stud hit the side of the spindle, instead of going any bit up into the socket. As if it wasn't inline, but it was, the carousel came all the way out. This happened a couple times during the day, but when running programs it was fine... for a while. This was all happening on tool 3, which doesn't appear to be damaged in any way, nor the clip on the carousel. Ran for maybe 3 cycles after than with 3 tool changes each, only to drop tool 21 randomly when picking up. After that I threw my hands up and said I'm not touching it until the boss is back because the last machine only got progressively worse.
I know this isn't the best description, but it's hard to describe when it's hard to watch.
The encoder on this one is lining up the spindle fine. That'll still grab a tool, but the dogs end up on top of the flange, not completely dropping it. Such as on the first machine, it would pick it up in the wrong orientation, then drop it off wrong, mashing up all the plastic holders on the carousel. This one shoves the tool out, before the spindle ever comes close to the carousel itself. For example, the tool finishes bouncing around in the pan, before the spindle finishes it's down stroke over where the tool was.
Any info could help.
Thanks!
