Trick for chucking short blanks

When ever I have larger diameter thin parts, I like to use my hard jaws for extra grip. The step on the jaws is usually to deep so I use "shims" in the bolt hole counterbores. I have a few different lengths for various jobs and part thicknesses. In the pics, I'm gripping on less then .100" I was always going to cut a groove in the pins for an "o" ring. That way they would have a little resistance in the hole and would not fall out when blowing off the chuck. Maybe some of you guys already do this, but for those who don't give it a try. Works slick.
